An example of contamination being identified after new houses had been built.
Restricted access made our work more difficult, but we pride ourselves on
handling this sort of problem.
-
Government emphasis on the re-use of brownfield land has led to greater need for decontaminating and restoring sites in readiness for new building - hence GMC has performed numerous clean-up operations for developers and Local Authorities.
Health and Safety is of course a priority, as is the appropriate expertise. We have specially trained and equipped operatives who are capable of dealing with highly toxic substances, and are accustomed to being monitored by environmental health experts.
To ease clients' workload, GMC can co-ordinate operations and can select or nominate appropriate landfill sites which are geared to accept contaminated material
- One distant job was a £250,000 operation at Dartford, Kent, for a plc development company about to build on the site of a former Vickers WWII tank factory. Locally, we have worked for Portsmouth City Council at Fort Cumberland, where the land was contaminated through former MOD use; and at the Henderson Road Caravan Park, Eastney, which was previously the site of a power station.
