New steel sheet piling being erected for a length of about 150 metres, to counter years of erosion.
Years of erosion were undermining a high-security fence at the bomb depot of Defence Munitions Frater at Gosport. In this design and construction project, Graham Moyse Contractors installed long sheet (LX12) piles for a length of about 150 metres.
This was far from straightforward as we were working in tidal conditions, and the ground had to be carefully probed and examined prior to piling because of unknown obstructions.
All our staff were fully vetted and security cleared, and work could only proceed in the presence of a warden, due to the high-security status of the location. The £200,000 project was secured through Interserve Defence Ltd.
Close to a school, the Locks Road and Warsash Road junction was an accident blackspot. The road improvements we made are just one example of many projects completed for Hampshire County Council's Highways Authority. While creating the new mini-roundabout we carefully managed traffic to maintain a 24-hour flow and minimize disruption to the local community.
The new roundabout and revised road layout at the junction of Locks Road and Warsash Road
Most people recall the extraordinarily wet months of the winter 2000/2001 - the wettest since records began in the UK - yet GMC completed on time and within budget a major roads scheme for the Berkeley Homes development of Knowle Village. We built 1.6 km of single carriageway and cycleway to adoptable standards (Section 278 works with frequent inspections by engineers and the Local Authority), and operated a major traffic management scheme during our construction of the roundabout on the busy A32. The overall budget for this eight-month project was £1.6 million.
